Elton Loo Gwan Joh was born in July 1959. He entered the industry in 1980 as a broadcaster for the RTHK drama team. In 1981, he was invited to TVB by Catherine Tsang and has taken part in the sitcom Hong Kong 81 through Hong Kong 86 and portrayed "Ban Jai", since then everyone called him "Ban Jai". Ten Years ago, he started suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney inflammation and heart disease. Last year he was amputated due to his illness, but he still insisted on self-reliance. Early this year, he also signed an artist contract with TVB balancing between behind-the-scenes and on screen work. He also intended to do a comedy show, hoping for a new start. Ban Jai's determination and optimism won him the "Outstanding Life Award" at the The 13th Top Ten Rebirth of Disabled Award Ceremony in January. The month before, he also published his autobiography entited I Went Through The Shadows of Death Valley, in which he shared his 10 year life experience of his illness. He also actively does charity work and filled out a organ donation card, so he can save lives of others.
Elton is the late Anita Mui's good friend during his lifetime and since Anita's death he attended her memorial activities every year.
