At the HK Golden Horse Film Awards, Nicholas Tse won the Best Leading Actor actor and apologized to his father Patrick Tse on stage. He frankly said when he won the Newcomers award at age 18, he impolitely treated his father: "At the time I asked him if he ever got a HK Golden Horse Award after shooting hundreds of films? Then I took out my award. Today I know he's watching TV, this comment followed him 12 years, I hope he doesn't put it to heart. I hope he'll forgive this impolite little boy who boasted his own abilities and raised such a troublesome little one."

46 year old Carina Lau once experienced 5 losses in 5 battles. Depending on Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame (狄仁傑之通天帝國), she is nominated for the 6th time as Best Actress. Finally she won the Best Leading Actress award and her film was the big winner of the night. On stage, Carina emotionally thanked the director and all of the behind-the-scenes crew, and publicly announced she wanted to give this award to her mother and husband: "He wanted me to get this award for a long time, today I can finally give it to you! Also, I am really grateful of my husband, today he sent me a SMS, thank you for giving me so much freedom over the last many years, although I know I won't ever catch up with you."
