Wayne Lai, Teresa Mo, Joyce Cheng, Aimee Chan, and other cast members were in Hong Kong’s Central district yesterday filming the 1 hour series finale of TVB’s “Off Pedder,” which is slated to air two days prior to Chinese New Year. Even though Wayne was suffering from an ear infection, he still gave his all during the filming, dancing and singing in the episode’s grand musical scene ending. Wayne indicated that during filming, the feeling he had was similar to being “seasick” on a ship (due to his ear infection)…luckily, he had already gone to see the doctor the day before and took some medication, so the situation is already way better than before. When Teresa Mo heard this, she teased Wayne, saying that she is “envious” that he has such a lovely wife to look after and take care of him 24 hours a day. At the filming location, Wayne’s wife was also on site and during the breaks, she made sure that Wayne took his medication – invoking the admiration of those around them.
Both Teresa and Wayne indicated that they have been filming the series for 1 year – now that it’s finally over, they are both happy and sad. Asked if they will take advantage of the time off from filming to go on a vacation to re-energize? Teresa said that she has not taken a vacation in many years, so after this, she will be arranging 3 vacations to relax and re-energize: one by herself, one with her family, and one with her husband. Hearing this, Wayne said that he is “jealous,” as he has not taken a vacation in 10 years. Teresa immediately laughed and told him that as soon as he takes time off, he gets sick (indicating his ear infection).
Teresa was asked when she will film another TV series? Laughing, she said that this series took 1 year to film without any time off to rest, it did take a little bit of a toll on her, plus Wayne got an ear infection. However, if the opportunity arises to work with Wayne again on another series, she will definitely participate. With regard to reports that TVB treats its “outside” (non-contracted) artists harshly, Teresa and Wayne both indicated that TVB is very good to the two of them (both artists are not contracted with TVB).
Producer Catherine Tsang was also at the filming location yesterday. When she heard that Teresa would be willing to make another series if she had the opportunity to work with Wayne again, she immediately said that she will fulfill Teresa’s wish. Ms. Tsang revealed that there are plans currently in the works for majority of the cast of “Off Pedder” to do another series together – the series will be another ½ hour per episode modern sitcom. She indicated that Wayne also mentioned that he really wanted to work with an actress like Teresa again, who takes her acting seriously. She also saw the close relationships that the “Off Pedder” cast had developed with each other while filming the series – to the point where individual cast members came up to her and expressed their wish to have another chance to work together again.
Joyce Cheng and Aimee Chan had developed a close “sister” relationship as a result of filming “Off Pedder.” Both of them indicated that they will miss not working together, especially since the cast and crew saw each other almost every day and started to become like family. Every day, when they would go to work at Studio 11 in TVB City, it was like they were going home….no one had any hidden agendas – they were very comfortable with each other and took good care of each other. Therefore, they hoped that there would be an opportunity to work together again in the future. Joyce indicated that she is not sure what the plans will be in terms of work for the coming year, however there are plans for her to travel overseas to do a show. She says: “Hopefully, there will be a lot of work to keep me busy – the busier, the better – otherwise I will feel very empty inside.”
