Amigo Chui's assaulting ex-girlfriend Elizabete Kwong case has been troubling him for more than 2 months. He was eventually charged for the case and appeared again at Kwun Tong Magistracy yesterday for the trial wearing a black outfit. He denied the "assault occasioning actual bodily harm" (AOA) charges. According to the prosecution lawyer, the hearing will be adjourned to May 18th, where Elizabete will appear to testify in court.
Accompanied by his manager, Amigo arrived at court and appeared preoccupied and nervous. He bit his lip often, kept his hand crossed over his chest and frowned. Natalie Tong who was rumored to have reconciled with him did not appear in court to support them. Instead his classmate's father Mr. Wong came to support. Mr. Wong expressed that he treats Amigo as his nephew, praising that he was a good kid, very obedient and polite when he was young.
Does not plead guilty, it was an accident
In court, Amigo carefully listened to the magistrate read off the details of the charge and then calmly replied: "I do not plead guilty." Then his lawyer spoke on his behalf. The magistrate asked if Amigo had evidence of his absence at the crime scene? Was the incident an accident or had any bodily contact? Was there a third party at the scene at the time? And was there a series of arguments or disagreements? Amigo's lawyer expressed that the incident was an accident and he is falsely accused. Also, at the time they were in the same unit, therefore there was no other third party witness. The magistrate asked back: "A third party did not see the incident, what does this have to do with the case?" The prosecutor did not reveal the contents, only expressed that they will summon Elizabete, doctors, police officers and 4 other witnesses to the court.
Find another attorney
The magistrate expressed the case is adjourned to May 18th. The defense lawyer said that the attorney Amigo hired does not have time, therefore they hope the court can adjourn the hearing between May 3rd to 17th. The magistrate declined the request: "It is only March now, there is plenty of time to find other attorneys who are available at that time. I do not understand what is so special about this case that there needs to be a certain attorney to handle it!" Amigo was also advised to: "You should find another attorney!" Amigo nodded in response. The next hearing is still set at May 18th, Amigo continues to get bailed out with a $1000 fee.
