The shocking ending left Netizens actively discussing online. Many people felt disturbed by the bloody scene. On the TVB.com discussion forums, Netizens expressed their dissatisfaction, demanding TVB to fire the scriptwriter and redo the ending. Producer Amy Wong expressed that the ending attempted to send a message: "Life is impermanent, happiness is not a necessity, a person must cherish the people around them." The script was not deliberately made tragic to stir up emotions. Elaine and Chris felt the ending had meaning, very beautiful.
All along, Only You gave the audience an impression that it's a heart-warming series, but at 11pm on the finale night, the initially happy couple taking wedding photos by the sea, King and Kaka were tragically killed by a car that lost control. Netizens felt that even if the death of King and Kaka was suppose to make Kevin Cheng and Yoyo Mung's characters realize that they need to cherish each other, TVB could have used other methods to bring this message. Netizens hope TVB can do a retake.
Elaine Yiu wrote on Weibo on the finale night: "Although King and Kaka's ending was not perfect in our hearts, it is touching! In the end, Summer (Kevin) and Ah Man (Yoyo) were able to fulfill their wishes! King and Kaka are a married couple in another world, buried together! Some things you are incapable of guessing....this also brings a message... cherish the people around you! It is a meaningful ending!" Chris Lai agreed.
