Kevin Cheng overwhelmingly supported by management
According to reports, Kevin Cheng received 6 out of 7 votes from TVB’s management for TV King. Those who voted for him include: Stephen Chan, Virginia Lok, Catherine Tsang, director of program development Pang Jai Choi, assistant director of programming Ho Koon Chung, production manager Chan Ka Yeung; the only executive who voted for Michael Tse was drama production head Tommy Leung. As for TV Queen, the results were also 6 to 1 in favor of Myolie Wu, with production head Catherine Tsang the only one who voted for Fala Chan.
Also, in addition to gaining the favor of management and the audiences, Kevin also received support from majority of the producers, who overwhelmingly voted for him for TV King. It is said that Kevin’s performance in “Ghetto Justice” caused many of the producers to see him in a new light, plus they saw the effort he put into the role, despite being only the 4th choice for that role (the other 3 actors originally invited to take on that role declined).
The day after the award ceremony, head of production and resources Virginia Lok attended an event and emphasized that the awards result was fair and just. Asked about Michael Tse not receiving any awards at all, she replied: “I will tell him not to be discouraged and continue to work hard.” Asked whether Michael cried afterwards, she stated: “Laughing Gor is strong, he is able to endure it. Fala [Chan] didn’t get any awards either – she told us not to give the award to her because she is not ready for it yet.”
Newly crowned TV King and Queen highly paid in Mainland
Even though newly crowned TV King and Queen Kevin Cheng and Myolie Wu celebrated together into the early morning hours after the awards ceremony, they were only able to take a short rest before having to continue work on new series “Ghetto Justice 2”; after that, both will be traveling to the Mainland to film series.
Next month, Kevin will be collaborating with Michael Tse in the 30 episode Mainland series “Hero” – it is rumored that Kevin’s salary in the Mainland jumped from 160,000 yuan per episode to 250,000 yuan, easily earning him 1 million yuan for 1 series. During his acceptance speech, Kevin emphasized that he did not ‘exchange contract for award’, as his current contract with TVB isn’t set to expire until 2016. After filming “Hero”, he will be participating in a series that will be a joint collaboration between TVB and CCTV.
As for Myolie, she will be filming in Hengdian shortly. Currently at TVB, she receives a salarly of 10,000 HKD per episode, however it is reported that her salary in the Mainland will increase tenfold to 120,000 yuan per episode.
