Asked what kind of naughty things is he hiding? He laughed: "I'm perverted! When I see a pretty girl, I go like 'wah, this one is hot wah! Her legs are so slim!' Every man would do the same, sometimes I'll flirt too, but of course I will only do it to the girls I know." Girls, he will mess with, that's right, he used the words 'mess with' to describe it. "I will definitely mess with girls, how? Actually guys messing with girls and pursuing girls are normal. It's also normal if they fail to pursue the girl, no problem."
Aside from being perverted, Kenneth exposed he has a foul mouth: "Sometimes when I'm with a group of friends, I will use a lot profanity. Usually work is stressful, so when I'm eating out with my soccer buddies, we joke and use profanity. Often times, I use it in a joking way, it's very free and relaxed. Of course, if there are girls around, I won't say it."
In the public eye, artists that do not smoke, drink or hang out in the nightclubs are considered good boys. Among the currently leading Siu Sangs, Raymond Lam, Kevin Cheng, Bosco Wong and Ron Ng, which one of them hasn't done it before? Kenneth just happened to satisfy all those conditions of a good boy. Every time when he gets photographed by the media, if he's not out having tea with his mother then he's out taking the MTR to go play soccer. In fact, he's pretty much of a 'house boy'. Kenneth said: "It's strange, I just don't like the smell of smoke or alcohol. However, if you don't smoke or drink, that does not mean you're a good boy. I believe with time people will eventually realize I'm not a good boy. I am a normal person, each individual has their strengths and weaknesses."
Kenneth is working hard at 'clearing his name', but actually it's all just for work: "I just feel that a successful artist should not have an image. It's best that audience don't know what you are, then that's the best self-benefit for whatever role I take on. A filial image is good, but if in the future I play an 'almond + orange color' role, then audience won't be convinced."
Friends For Life
Whether Kenneth is a good or bad boy, time will prove it all. We all can see, Sharon Chan, Selena Li? Nevermind all that, but what about Nancy Wu? He directly admits that they have dated: "It is before, we have dated before, but not even a year." It was rumored they broke up because Nancy met a wealthy businessman in Mainland and she had 'princess illness'. He defended Nancy: "Our personalities didn't match, it was a peaceful break up. After some time of being together, we gradually realized that there are some aspects in which we have different views on. It's not her problem, perhaps it's because of timing. Her personality is a very good girl, she doesn't have any attitudes, she's easy to get along with and can really accommodate people." He warned the media: "You must not write bad about her, she is a good girl."
Then how about Margie Tsang? He said: "It never bothered me whoever I'm rumored with, even if I was rumored in a sister-brother relationship with Margie. Just as long as the story isn't too over, I don't mind." When asked again, does Kenneth like her? "I like her! We're good friends!" Helplessly, we asked again, do you love her? Kenneth said: "From the start, I have always thought she is a very very good woman. Even now when I see her, we chat nonstop."
With all the irrelevant answers, we asked Kenneth again, have they actually dated before? He paused and then forced a smile: "Aiya. That is, I don't know what to say, I really do admire her, our personalities really do match and she is in fact the type I like. (Try to develop further?) We did try going out and having dinner, of course, but I really don't know how to develop any further. Perhaps because we just know each other too well, I just feel like if we keep this friendship, our relationship will last longer. You know friends can be forever, but if couples break up, then it may not be possible to be friends again." He said he doesn't want to use other peoples' name for publicity, the Margie Tsang topic will end there.
Money is the most Practical
Kenneth graduated from the University of British Columbia in Canada majoring in mechanical engineering. When he was in college, he participated in many theatrical plays and from there his interest for acting grew. After graduation, he returned to HK and sent out his resume to 60 places, and not even one replied back. Finally he went to audition for TVB and joined the 14th TVB Acting Class. After 3 years of being an extra and cameo, he was casted in 2003's Triumph in the Skies. Kenneth believes he's one of the fortunate ones. When he started shooting series, he had been semi-evil roles, supporting roles, guest star and even leading roles. As for the TV ratings, he doesn't stress about it and has no pressure: "Because I can't control the TV ratings. As an actor, I am very selfish, I just want to first enjoy the series, the role and do my best overall. Speaking in a more selfish manner, a lot of people left TVB and they really don't have enough people to use, so honestly even if the ratings aren't high, I believe I will still have series to film."
His current goal is to earn more money: "I am very practical, I want to earn more money to give a better life and safeguard to my family. After all, this is the actuality of society." In fact, just as long as there is fame and financial resources, it will continue to roll on naturally, no wonder the Siu Sangs are competing for the TV King title. In 2006, Kenneth won the Most Improved Actor award, he said: "Leave it to fate, I said before I'm very practical. If I were to choose between awards and money, I would choose money. When you are in poverty, awards does you no good in getting food. In fact, it's just a piece of metal. However, with money you can make a living. I am very practical, haha!"
